Finding or starting a course can be really overwhelming, with a bazillion online courses, YouTube videos, PDF’s, and one-to-one training options out there, how do you know which one to pick! Fear not, we’ve scoured the search engines and listed out all of the top places to visit.
Have a think about how you’d like to learn and choose what’s right for you. Would you prefer to watch YouTube videos? Or, perhaps you’d like an interactive course which tells you where you’re going wrong? How about a beginner course? Maybe you are a graphic designer wanting to further your website design knowledge? How much does it cost?
As you would expect, prices vary depending on the type of course you choose. Face to face makes a big difference, courses with certification and more in-depth training tend to be priced higher. Fear not though, there are lots of amazing courses that cost absolutely nothing but time, we’ll get to those a bit further down!
I’ve picked out a few examples to show you the variation in pricing, there doesn’t seem to be an industry-wide pricing structure, so you’re best off looking at real reviews, testimonials and keeping it within your budget.

The highest rated online web design course on popular training website Udemy costs a mere £10.99 (though apparently, it’s usually £200). This course includes ‘7.5 hours on-demand video, 37 mins on-demand audio, 14 Articles, 8 Supplemental Resources, Full lifetime access, Access on mobile and TV, and a Certificate of Completion.’ View the course here
A complete web design course on popular Codestars, which has a whopping 20467 reviews, and 107464 students enrolled, costs £99. This is a ‘learn by doing’ course, and covers ‘building 25 websites and real mobile apps using HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Python, MySQL and a lot more.’ View the course here

YouTube Channels
YouTube is an amazing resource which is not just full of cat videos. There’s some awesome channels, videos and communities dedicated to helping people learn how to create websites. We’ve picked out a few winners sure to get you started on the right track.
XHTML and CSS Tutorials Playlist – A cracking 46 video course all in one playlist, covering everything from downloading a text editor, to publishing a fully blown website! A great resource from popular channel thenewboston.
Learn HTML – Your First Web Page (For Absolute Beginners) – As the title suggests, this one is for absolute beginners. It’s worth noting, this was made in 2010, and web development moves fast, so bear that in mind when learning about techniques that may have evolved over time. Still, a great video by LearnWebCode.
30 Days to Learn HTML & CSS (Full Course) – I like this concept! 30 days, and about 10 minutes a day to learn the essentials of HTML and CSS. Worth a shot right? Videos by Envato Tuts+.
General Assembly – A free coding resource that has tutorials perfect for anyone wanting to code websites in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Udemy Courses
Udemy is a mammoth online learning website. Covering pretty much anything you can think of! We’re only on the hunt for web design though, and here are our top 3 Udemy web design courses in no particular order.
The Web Developer Bootcamp – The most reviewed course on the website for Web Design, we had to include it! A whopping 223,562 students have enrolled on this one and it averages a 4.7/5 rating. With certification, over 40 hours of videos, and a plethora of resources; this one’s worth checking out. As of writing, this course is £10.99. Course by Colt Steele.
Ultimate Web Designer & Developer Course: Build 23 Projects! – This one promises to teach you everything from Design to Front & Back-End Programming. Again, a strong rating of 4.5/5. and priced at £10.99, It’s worth looking into. Also, as with most Udemy courses, you can view sample videos from the course. Course by Brad Hussey, Code College.
UX & Web Design Master Course: Strategy, Design, Development – We wanted to include this one as it covers User Experience (UX) principles, which are key to creating a great website! Shock horror, this is also £10.99 as of writing. Course by Joe Natoli.

Code Academy – HTML & CSS – We’re big fans of Code Academy. This FREE interactive way of learning really needs to be experienced to appreciate how well it works. Definitely worth checking out!
Codewars – A unique take on learning, Codewars lets you improve your skills by training with others on real code challenges. You use it directly in the browser, and the difficulty progresses as you get better yourself.
Free Code Camp – A great place to learn how to code. What’s more, you actually get to work on projects for non-profits, giving you invaluable experience on real-world projects! Oh, and it’s free!

Futurelearn - Digital Skills: User Experience course- This course from Accenture is designed to help you learn about why user experience (UX) is important, the research and design basics, and the tools and testing techniques used in UX.
In Person or Classroom Courses
Some people prefer to learn in person and to tell you the truth, that’s one of the best ways to learn! Here’s a list of classroom type courses.
Web Design courses in the UK
We’re based in the UK, so that’s what we know best! Here’s a list of real-world web design courses that you can go and participate in!
Jellyfish, HTML & CSS – We mentioned Jellyfish previously, for good reason too. There well known as a learning academy teaching specifics in web design and marketing. We’ve picked out there two-day HTML & CSS course as one to check out. It costs £485 + VAT, and you can do the course in the Shard, London. Tres cool.
City Lit, HTML5 & CSS: Introduction – This is a 3 session course over 3 weeks, introducing you to HTML & CSS, with the idea being that you move on to a more advanced course once completed. It costs £249 and the course can be done on weekends too. Cit Lit are based in Keeley Street, London.
WordPress No Stress, WordPress training courses – This is a one day course that also provides you with a free domain name, and hosting for a year! It costs £99 and is located in Russel Square, London.
Web Design courses In Surrey
We had to include Surrey, as it’s where our offices are based.
Acuity Training, HTML5 and CSS training – This one’s a two-day course in Guildford. It’s worth noting, that they also offer on-site training too. It’s an introduction to the key elements of the HTML language. It costs £495 and they have parking on-site.
Surrey Adult Learning – Using HTML & CSS – This course aims to take you through the various stages of creating your own website. It’s a 10 session course held in the evenings, and costs £126.
Farnborough College, How to build a professional looking website – This is a 3-week course, one evening per week. It costs £100 on the nose and is aimed at those looking to make a website, with the knowledge to keep to progressing it once the course is over.
Courses Near You
We’re well aware that you may not be in London or Surrey, so we’ve found this online tool which is rather good. HotCourses.com lets you search for courses near you. It’s as simple as that really. We’ve tried it in a few areas, and it seems to have most covered! You can also search for online courses too.
